Planning a Florida Vacation in Spring
You don’t have to visit Florida in the springtime in order to enjoy its abundant sunshine, its enchanting natural scenery, and its exciting culture — from family-friendly Orlando to Miami’s sizzling South Beach. However, if you do choose to experience Florida at this time of year, you’ll be rewarded with a slate of unique, season-specific events and programs. Here’s what to know when planning your March, April, or May visit.

There are so many delightful public events that happen in Florida each year. Among the biggest and most exciting are Miami’s Ultra Music Festival and Calle Ocho parade, the historic Flower & Garden Festival at Disney’s EPCOT, and Plant City’s Florida Strawberry Festival — a street fair bringing countless delicacies filled with the namesake fruit, as well as carnival rides and more.
If you’re looking for something off the beaten path, Mount Dora’s Spring Fest is a lovely open-air artisan fair on the coast, and Punta Gorda’s Hibiscus Festival shows hundreds of different exotic plants and flowers. We also recommend Weeki Wachee’s popular swamp-themed party, while Apalachicola’s Plein Air Paint-Out sees 20 acclaimed artists painting images of surrounding Gulf County. Sarasota’s jazz festival is another good option — it’s considered one of America’s best. Also consider West Palm Beach’s SunFest, a multi-day music and arts celebration, and various seafood festivals throughout the state.
Peak season throughout the Florida mainland ends in late winter, as the snowbirds fly home, and does not resume until schools get out in June. Therefore, for those who wish to experience Florida, aside from the above events and the generally mild and pleasant weather, springtime is arguably the best season to do so. Particularly if you come after March, which sees a surge of spring breakers, you will experience smaller crowds, shorter lines at theme parks, and a generally quiet and relaxing atmosphere.
